Grasshopper Cottage BandB
Accommodation
RATES
Over twenty five years ago we took the decision to move to the West of Ireland with our young family and chose to make our home at Grasshopper Cottage on the shore of Lough Corrib. We had been visiting Corr na Móna for many years prior to the move to enjoy for ourselves the excellent brown trout fishing and other many attractions of the area. The decision to open our home to guests was taken in 1990 and we set about turning the Cottage in to a fishing lodge designed to cater specifically for the needs of the game angler and, in 1998, we were one of the founding members of The Great Fishing Houses of Ireland.
Visitors, other than anglers, are also most welcome at the Cottage. They can relax and explore the natural beauty of the Joyce Country area or visit Connemara. There are a variety of activities to experience locally as well as visits to sites of historical interest.
We have four guest bedrooms, three of which have bathroom en-suite. The one standard room has a private bathroom, with bath, adjacent to the bedroom.
Three of the bedrooms have a view over the lough and the fourth overlooks the orchard and herb bed in the back garden.
The dining room stretches across the width of the house and so has a view of the lough to the front and the garden to the rear.
We use our own soft fruits to make jam which is served at breakfast.

The sitting room, which is available for guests' use at any time, has a selection of books, magazines and videos to peruse on various topics including fishing, wildflowers, walking and bird watching. Free WiFi access is available for residents.
There is a comprehensively stocked fly tying desk in the sitting room where anglers can tie up their "favourite" fly or the one that is "catching" at the moment. There are a number of books showing detailed instructions on how to tie various flies. Also check out the Fly Tying page.
We have a rod room, adjacent to the house, with rod racks, drying room, freezer and storage for wet gear, and a selection of flies for sale. The drying facilities are available to all guests.
Direct access to the lake with boats and engines for hire (life jackets supplied/personal flotation devices PFD), gillies/guides can be arranged (advance booking essential at peak times).
Anglers from all over the world come to the Cottage to experience the beauty of the surroundings, the superb fighting quality of the wild brown trout, and to make new friendships both with local people and other visiting anglers. Many fishermen return each year to renew their acquaintance with “the Corrib”, as it is called, to pit their wits against the wily trout and relax in the evening with a pint at the local pub, Tí Mháille - more commonly called O'Malley's, in the village.
