Whether you wish to take a ramble along the Dooras/Dubhros peninsula or a hike up the Maumturk Mountains, Grasshopper Cottage can act as a base for walks to suit all levels of experience and fitness.  Facilities for walkers include central heated bedrooms with hot showers, a comfortable lounge to relax in with open fire, a drying room for wet clothes and space to store boots etc. There are maps and guidebooks available for guests to consult or borrow, daily weather forecasts can be supplied together with full board (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner) if required.

There are a number of trail walks giving easy walking and include Siúlóid Bhinn Shléibhe, Clonbur Loop Trail, Clonbur to Cong Trail, Cong Woods Trail and others. The trails in the Clonbur/Cong Woods (Ballykine) can be downloaded from the new Coillte recreational site,  http://www.coillteoutdoors.ie/?id=53&rec_site=68    

  The trails are marked in different colours and you can take one of the short loop walks or stretch out and walk from Clonbur to Cong or vice versa.

Nearer to the Cottage, there is a pleasant ramble that takes you on a loop walk up the High Road, as it is known locally.  On the outward journey you have superb views out over the "south" lake of Lough Corrib and on the return you overlook the "north" lake.

  Look out for the wide variety of wildflowers that can be seen in the hedgerows and fields.  From mid August onwards there are an abundance of blackberries to be picked and enjoyed.
